It's My Party

And I'll cry if I want to.

I made the move from bet365poker.com to Party Poker today in the hopes of finding some new competition and expanding my game. I have been reading a lot of blogs and articles on the internet lately and the majority of the sites I visit all say that Party Poker is the best.

I have been playing on Party Poker's "play money" site for about 6 months, I use this when I am trying out new strategy and trying to work on a specific part of my game. The one thing that has always bothered me was that it was that the game seemed so slow. (It also bothered me that 8/10 hands some yahoo was going all in because it was play money and they could always just get more).

I am not unhappy with bet365poker.com at all, and I still have an active account there. I like there $0.75 sit and go tournaments and there super low limit $0.05/$0.10 6 person tables (you find me on Fat Cat and Peanut Butter regularly). It's just that I want to expand my game and try new things (geez, I feel like I am breaking up with my poker site).

I played with $25 for about 3 hours total and was up and down, but eventually lost it all. I found that the real money site moves much quicker and there are less yahoo's making dumb calls. I made a particularly bad play towards the end of the night, putting in $14 (the majority of my stack at the time) on what I thought was a lead-pipe-lock-nut-straight. Turns out, that if you don't have the 10, you can't get that straight and I ended up showing down someone's all-in with Ace high, losing to a pair of Queens. I couldn't figure out what happened until I went back in the dealer summary info and saw that I completely overlooked the fact the board had no 10. I have never made an error like that before and hope it never it happens again.

I was down to $1.04 at this point and manage to work my way back up to $11 and change. I got dealt KK and raised the $0.50 Blind to $2, I got called by 3 people, the board hit A 4 9 and I felt my stomach turn. I bet into it with $4 and was quickly raised to $8 by one player while everyone else folded. It was on me to either call the $4, fold, or go all in with my remaining $5.60. If I had folded, I wouldn't be writing this, so you can guess I called and he showed me A 4. I got no help on the turn or river and that was it. So chalk the first night on Party Poker up to defeat, but I will be back and I think I will do OK.

I am disappointed that the smallest tables are $25 with $0.25/$0.50 blinds. I never even played these tables on bet365poker.com because they were too rich for my blood. I also don't like that the smallest sit-and-go tournaments are $5 with a $1 fee, but maybe I can play those better than the ring games. I seem to excel at tournaments. Maybe tomorrow...

Check the "Poker Articles" under the Pro's section, the stuff Mike Caro writes is unreal.
