Power Outages Rock!

We lost power in our building at about 4:00 today, not just our building but apparently everything on the grid. We got a report of either a lost transfer or transformer but I wouldn’t know the difference if I hit one with my truck, so that doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that we were down for no less than 5 hours. So what better way to pass the time than to PLAY POKER?!

You heard right, I accomplished one of my life’s goals today, I got to play poker in the office (note: not really a life goal). We had joked about playing in our card-access-restricted server room in the past, but never seriously considered it. The situation could not have been better. We literally had nothing to do, but wait for the power to come back on, so we went and bought a set of chips and played a couple of rounds.

There was no buy-in as we did not want to bend the moral ground too much and there were only five of us, so the games went quick.

Jeff won both, I finished 3rd and 2nd. During the last game when it go down to heads up he had me severely out stacked and when I drew KT, I had to go all in. He tried to slow play me by betting half my stack from the BB, but I jumped all-in with what I thought was a decent hand. I soon ran into the wall that was made of bullets. I did catch a King on the turn, but nothing more. Jeff’s Aces held up and he walked away the victor.

I will have a hard time living this down for a while, but next time we will ACTUALLY PLAY FOR MONEY and he may not be so bold early on.
