Vonage
I pulled the trigger today. Sick and freakin' tired of V3r1z0n charging me $60 for what is essential a free service for them to run at this point.
Summary -
They can transfer my number - Yay!
1 Month free service - $24.99
Activation fee waived - $29.99
$14.95 in S&H for the modem - Ghey - they are either getting screwed by their shipping company or this is a separate revenue stream.
Unlimted nationwide calls. Now I can call everyone in... well.. Northern Virginia. But I COULD call someone in Texas or California if I wanted to...
I should get the modem by Wednesday.
Scary thought - My phone is now in the hands of c0mc@st... Yikes. I always have my cell as a backup.

RAWK.
I think vonage offers a deal like cellular carriers as well where 'in-network' calling is free.
I thought the same thought about putting my phone service in the hands of COX but so far the only downtime I've had has been my own damned fault - even when they were running fiber lines everywhere.
