I'm back from the beach and am ready for a vacation. Hauling 4 kids around Myrtle Beach is no picnic. My wife and I are ready to take a vacation from our vacation.

I'm happy to be back, I was able to do a lot of reading and I am ready to start tackling some low-limit tables. Thanks to everyone who offered their advice, it think it helped, only time on the tables will tell for sure. I did play for about 45 minutes last night and came away with a 10% profit so it is a good start but hardly enough table time to test my discipline. I am going to try and get an hour or so in tonight.

Here are the six most important things I learned last week from my reading:

1. Play fewer hands
2. Jam the pot when you get the cards.
3. Play straight forward
4. Avoid FPS (Fancy Play Syndrome) (Thanks Caro)
5. Discipline wins
6. Play fewer hands

OK, so its really only 5 things, but items 1 and 6 are so important I felt the need to make it both the first and last thing on my list. It is not OK to bet with a KJos. It is not OK to bet Ax-suited from early position. I did learn, however, that playing this way is BORING. Well, its not boring all of the time. When you DO hit your hand it is incredibly exciting to watch all of your opponents call or raise your bets with the crap hands that I was notorious for playing in my former poker life.

Off to the tables!
